One Liner: Few performers I see appear to enjoy their work as much as Ms Pesch. Her enthusiasm is infectious and whilst still not knowing too much of the material, this was another good evening with the Warlock Queen.
Now, what's german for Let's Rock!

Doro - Monday 19th May - Islington Academy
The Islington Academy is the venue for the return to London of “The Queen of Metal” Dorothee Pesch – aka Doro. Having enjoyed her previous outings over the last couple of years, Rich and I thought we’d pop along for a bit of German Metal. I still don’t know too many of the songs, but they are becoming more familiar. Ms Pesch’s “signature move” would appear to be bending forward, two arms outstretched , with a bit of headbanging to the crowd, some of whom respond in kind. It can look a little strange from the outside, but the breathless talks between songs shows Doro has a real affinity with her English audience. Tributes to Ronnie James Dio and a run through of Judas Priest’s “Breaking The Law” mix in nicely, before the sing-along “All We Are”.
Glad to report that the merchandise was good value, including a nice “30 Year celebration” programme – all in German. Metaltastic!

Doro - Tuesday 20th of November - The Garage, Islington
| Ms Pesch |
Off to the Garage in Islington for some German rock!
This was preceded by a long pub crawl - sadly all non-alcoholic for me, but including some excellent darts!
Arriving perfectly 5 mins before showtime we took our place in a 2/3 full venue and scored an expected 'Ling alert' point.
Having previously seen Doro supporting Saxon, I still didn't know too much material, but it was all solid enough apart from the outrageously long drum solo which was painful. The front of the venue pretty much dispersed to the loos for this part of the show. There must be a campaign online to ban these surely - if so, sign me up!
Anyway the rest of the show was enough to make me probably look out for a best of Warlock CD sometime soon. Raise your fist in the air London!

Saxon - Thursday 23rd April - Forum, Kentish Town
Surprisingly, I'd never seen Saxon before and knew little of their material. Supported by the impressive Doro Pesch, this was a good fun evening. Despite my lack of previous listening, there were enough good songs to keep me on the lookout for a "best of" CD in the near future! Extremely long encore too with a bit of Judas Priest!
