The Who - Friday 14th February (Show 2) - Pryzm, Kingston

Brief review: The last of the 4 shows - and the first to sell out in seconds. This original one was to mark the 50th anniversary of "Live At Leeds". A nice "Live At Kingston" T Shirt was available (as was limited collectable lithograph). It has been a true honour and privilege to somehow grab tickets for these shows - and thanks to Banquet Records for putting them on and the Who for playing them.

Brief review: Show 2 of 4 - the Wednesday evening show. Pete admitted that despite reservations, he and Roger were actually enjoying the shows. There was also a bit of a rant about the nearby Bentalls centre.

The Who - Wednesday 12th February (Show 1) - Pryzm, Kingston

Brief review: Show 1 of 4 over two nights at the Pryzm nightclub in Kingston. As you can imaging there had been a scramble for tickets from Banquet records for the Who's smallest venue show for 40 odd years. People had come from across the globe and after a slightly hesitant start and a few mistakes, the acoustic set was greeted with great enthusiasm. It included the live debut of a a couple of tracks from the new album, called "WHO".

Johnny Warman's Magic Bus - Friday 8th November - Boom Boom Club, Sutton

A low key gig at the Boom Boom. Variously billed as "the Total Who Show" and "Magic Bus" it did what it said on the tin. 100 minutes of brilliant Who material.
I can only say that Mr Warman's address book must contain an endless array of fantastic musicians. I really enjoyed the guitarist here, but for me the keyboard player was brilliant. Johnny gave his normal 100% and the smiles on the audiences' faces said it all.

We'll shout for "Bell Boy" next time!

The Who - Tuesday 30th March - Royal Albert Hall

Another year and and another week of shows at the Royal Albert Hall in Aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust (of which Roger Daltrey is a Patron). We went for the "cheap" seats up in the "Gods", but had a decent 2nd row seat to the side. This gave a reasonable view for the Who's performance of Quadrophenia (played in full for the first time in ages). The sound was good and we got a couple of special guests in the form of the singer from Kasabian (Tom Meighan) as the Ace Face and Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam).

A good performance all in all, only slightly marred by the complete lack of encore. I know the Who often dispense with one, but for the money paid, I think the crowd would have been justified in expecting one. Subsequent comments from Roger may have suggested that his voice wasn't really up to extra songs on the night.

The Who - Monday 15th December - Indigo2

What can I say - It's the WHO! Therefore as you would expect it was very, very good! Included the first public performance for 25 years of "Slip Kid". Lots on banter and swearing from Townshend and Daltrey in fine voice. Also the novelty of the 1st song performed twice has PT had a problem with his ears and had to leave the stage for 5 minutes. I blame the hat and glasses!

The Mods - Friday 19th September - Bull & Butcher, Totteridge

An intended mini pub crawl through the streets of Barnet actually turned into quite a session. This included some surprisingly high standard darts on one of the pubs en route - can't go wrong when the pub provides 2 Tournament boards and a proper raised oche ! Despite playing really well (123 on one throw and a 100+ checkout), Richard somehow won 3-2 !!

Maybe due to the beer, I was surprised when we got to the venue, because it wasn't where I expected. Or rather it was, but it was a different venue to the last time we went to Totteridge & Whetstone. Very confused!

Anyway - the band were the Mods who we normally see in Sutton - that is Johnny Warman, Steve Byrd, Steve Barnacle, Johhny Marter et al. The expected evening of classic Small Faces, Kinks etc and the bonus of even more Who tracks than normal. Excellent stuff, aided and abetted by unusually attractive bar staff!

All followed by a long snooze on the Northern Line!
